27th-Nov-2009 11:47 am - *scratches head* EDIT... FIXED!
So... I opened my Photoshop CS3 to start making some icons... but for some reason no matter what tool I choose (text tool, cropping tool) my cursor stays a hand (like the hand tool) and I can't make anything. I haven't had this problem before and I don't know if I managed to push something last time I used photoshop or if something else has happened. I did make a screen shot of my working area if you can spot something I done.
Thank you for any help you can give me!

EDIT Re-starting the computer helped... but next time I'll try pressing the spacebar like some of you have suggested! THANKS!!!

So, in this tutorial, we will be going from this:

to this:

program: adobe photoshop cs4
translatable: maybe? (uses fill layers, color balance, channel mixer, and curves)
difficulty: fairly easy!
steps: 9

26th-Nov-2009 03:25 pm - [tutorial] bright colours
program: adobe photoshop CS2
translatable: no (selective colouring)
difficulty: very easy
steps: 4
comments: bright colouring tut. useful for dark or bland images. really only good for screencaps or photographs; i tried it with anime caps and it only succeeds in making them look flatter.

25th-Nov-2009 04:44 pm - Cleaning up screencaps
I was about to make a mini-movie icon, then noticed that my screencaps were looking kind of pixelated and dithered. I thought I'd try my hand at cleaning it up, since I've never done image enhancement/restoration before. What methods are recommended? Every time I get told to use the smudge and clone tools, I make a total mess of everything.

And the other question is - does anyone know anything that could clean up all the screencaps at once? There are 47 frames I had ready for the icon and the thought of manually smudging/clone-stamping every one of them makes me kinda scared.

I'm using Photoshop 7.0 by the way. TIA.

Happy almost Thanksgiving everyone. :)

I have a quick question. I'm looking for tutorials that turn real life pictures into a cartoon style. I've tried the archive under colorings and anime/manga, but nothing I've seen fits what I'm looking for. I remember there being a Buffy tutorial, though I can't seem to find it. There was also a tutorial with Avril Lavigne where she fades into a sketch. Anything like that would work.

Thank you very much!

Happy Holidays.

I hope it's ok if I'm asking here...
Is it possible in a way to sharpen more layers at once? i'm using Photoshop CS 2 & Image Ready.

eta: I basically just want to sharpen every single layer at once without merge them together or something. It would be very helpful for doing animations because sharpening every single layer is pretty tedious.

Curves Tutorial! :)

People seem to get all 'arghh!??' at curves, but they're really quite simple, and ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! So I've prepared a guide for how they can work, basics, and then some examples, and then some crazy thing that can be done :)

Wondering why you should check this out, happy with your current methods? I find curves to be a dream, easy to use, gives smooth colours, good for making images POP quite easily. What do you have to lose?

Caution: really quite a lot of pictures!

VERY basics: you're never used curves before )

How Curves work: you're played around, but are not sure what's happening )

other shapes of curves you could try )

Examples! - just a couple. you can request more if you like :) )

Feel free to ask anything!
22nd-Nov-2009 11:16 pm - Cropping animated GIFs

Hi, I'm new to making animated GIFs, and I got stuck...

I wanted to crop my GIF, so I set the canvas size to 100x100. After I cropped it, I realised that I had only cropped the first frame of the animation. Is there any way to crop the whole animation? I really can't find a solution!

Thanks for any help!

I'm using Photoshop CS3, by the way

Hi everyone ~ This is my first time posting and actually making a tutorial, so please bare with me ^^ ;; If there's any questions and stuff, please go ahead and ask ^_^;;

21st-Nov-2009 10:21 pm - PSD Tutorials
Would anyone happen to have a tutorial on making PSD's (coloring ones)?

I'd appreciate it a lot! (:
My first tutorial I really have no idea if this is intermediate or advance. I learn backwards, I can do an animated icon better than a regular one. Any who, here’s a tutorial for anyone who wants to make a double anicon (or whatever you call it). 2gifs in one. This will be a lot easier if you’ve made animated icons before.

Program: CS3 Extended
Involves: How to import & Time Setting
Translateable: I don't think so maybe if you have CS4
Steps: 12 maybe less if you've made an animated icon before
Difficulty: Intermidate I guess
PSD: included (dunno if it will help you but it is after tut)
Warning: Boring/ image heavy post
21st-Nov-2009 10:46 pm - Split colourings
My sister took this photo on her camera and I'd very much like to make an icon out of it. However, due to flash inteference half of it is incredibly bright whereas the other is normal. I've tried to alter it using selective colour by lowering the blues, but still no luck. I'm guessing it's beyond repair?
